Walter Harvey Lewis, Sr.
September 14, 1944 – June 28, 2024

Funeral services for Walter Harvey Lewis, Sr., 79, of Cairo, GA, are at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at the First Baptist Church, Cairo, GA.  Rev. Chris Allen, Rev. Ron McCaskill and Rev. John Paul Hassick will officiate.  Military honors will be presented at the church.  Services will conclude at the church.  Private interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo, GA.  Mr. Lewis passed away at his home on Friday, June 28, 2024.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Ellis, Tom Brown, Russell Pope, Bryan Lewis, Johnny Tuggle, Sid Pridgen, Sonny Crapps, the Grady County Honor Guard, and his Sunday School Class at the First Baptist Church.

Mr. Lewis was born on September 14, 1944, in Bainbridge, GA, to the late Y.B. Lewis and Irene Lane Lewis.  He was a graduate of Cairo High School and South Georgia College.  He served his country in the United States Army.  On December 24, 1966, he married Judy Kay Hopkins Lewis, who preceded him in death on May 12, 2005.  He was the owner and operator of the Lewis Sand Company.  Walter was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW.)  He was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Cairo.

Survivors include: his son, Walter Harvey Lewis, II, (Sherry); his daughter, Jenna Katherine Lewis of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren, Amara Irene Lewis of Dallas, TX, Walter Seth Lewis of Cairo, GA, Sydney Leigh Lewis of Cairo, GA; sisters-in-law, Jane Lewis of Cairo, GA, Gail Lewis of Crawfordville, FL; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife; and brothers, Ronny Lewis and Jimmy Lewis.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.
