Services for Christine Knight Whigham, 87, Cairo, GA, are at 3:00, on Monday, March 14, 2016, at Pine Level Baptist Church, Cairo, GA with visitation beginning at 1:00. Interment will be private. Mrs. Whigham passed away at her home on March 11, 2016.

Active pallbearers will be: Drew Whigham, Connor Whigham, Dustin Anderson, Bobby Godwin, Terry Whigham, and Gene Roland.

Mrs. Whigham was born on November 30, 1928, to the late Mr. Melvin J. Knight, Sr. and Mrs. Lucille Maxwell Knight. She is survived by her son, Mark (Meg) Whigham, Cairo, GA; her daughter, Jill (Jerry) Jones, Climax, GA; grandchildren, Emmaree (Dustin) Anderson, of Boston, GA; Drew Whigham and Connor Whigham, of Cairo, GA; Jan Jones, Joy Jones, and Jerilyn Jones, all of Climax, GA; two siblings, Melvin (Helen) Knight, Jr. and Winburn (Doris) Knight, of Whigham, GA; sisters-in-law, Lavelle Kimbrel, of Panama City, FL and Geraldine Sheffield, of San Antonio, TX.

She graduated from Whigham High School in 1945 and from Norman Park College in 1947. She taught at Wayside School in Grady County as one of two teachers for grades 1-6 for a year before the school was closed. She then lived in Attapulgus, GA and worked as an administrative assistant at Engelhard Company. She married Eldron Whigham on April 25, 1954. They shared a loving marriage for fifty-seven years until his death on March 1, 2012. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was an active member of Pine Level Baptist Church since 1953 and taught Sunday School for sixty-two years. She was dedicated to her family, all aspects of the family farm, and church.

The family will receive friends at Pine Level Baptist Church at 1:00 Monday, March 14, 2016 with the funeral service immediately following at 3:00.
