Katie Fountain Ansley

Funeral services for Katie Fountain Ansley, 89 or “44 ½ two times”, of Ochlocknee, GA, are at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, October 2, 2016, at Pine Forest Baptist Church, Ochlocknee, GA. Rev. Stan Godwin, Rev. Dennis Norman and Rev. Jack House will officiate. Interment will be in Pine Forest Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Ansley passed away at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital in Tallahassee, FL, on Wednesday morning, September 28, 2016.
Active pallbearers will be nephews.
Mrs. Ansley was born on March 14, 1927, in Byromville, GA to the late Horace Fred Fountain and Belle Pickard Fountain. She was the youngest daughter of eleven children. After graduating from high school, she studied education at GA Southwestern in Americus. She moved to Grady County, GA in 1946 to take her first teaching position at Spence School. In addition to teaching, she also coached a Spence Boys basketball team. One day a driver was needed to take the team to Cairo for a game. A young man by the name of Homer Ansley was volunteered to do so. This young man was soon to become her husband. The couple married October 31, 1948 and shared 64 years of marriage until his death on October 29, 2012. Although the couple had no children of their own, their loving support was shown to their nieces, nephews, and many family members as well as to others. Many would say that “Aunt Katie and Uncle Homer” played an important role in their lives through the years. The heritage the Fountain/Ansley family has been given will continue on. Their devotion to each other and other family members was unconditional. Soon after marriage, the couple traveled during his two year term with the US Army. Upon returning to Grady County, she became a farmer’s wife and seamstress. After retiring as seamstress she was a substitute teacher for many years. Affectionately called “Mrs. Katie or Aunt Katie” by her students. Even in latter years, her love for farming continued with her yearly tomato u-pick.
Upon giving her heart to God and joining the ‘Church’ in 1958, she became an active member of Pine Forest Baptist Church for almost sixty years. She taught Sunday school, children’s church, VBS and sang in the choir. She was always willing to help in any areas needed and would always bring more than her share of food for meals. She loved the Lord, her church and church family. She was the kind of person to never meet a stranger. She loved people and her community. She was a very giving person, never wanting anything in return. She gave from the heart. She was a wealth of knowledge. Many enjoyed visiting with her and learning stories and tales from days gone by. She enjoyed planting a garden each year and watching the plants grow and produce. Her family and friends will miss the times spent with her, but will cherish the many memories. She felt very blessed and had a lived a full life. She was at peace and was ready if the Lord should call her home.
Survivors include: brothers-in-law, James “J. D.” Ansley of Pelham, GA, Wayne Ansley (Marie) of Cairo, GA; sisters-in-law, Doris Fountain of Perry, GA, Frances Fountain of Arizona, Buice Hudson of Bradenton, FL, Margie Anderson of Ochlocknee, GA, Betty Ponder of Ochlocknee, GA, Jean Ansley of Cairo, GA, Ramona Ansley of Cairo, GA; and an uncle, Jim Ansley of Cairo, GA. Mrs. Ansley was a loving aunt to a host of nieces and nephews and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by: parents; husband; brothers, Z.T. Fountain, G.W. Fountain, Clyde Fountain, Carl Fountain, Bun Fountain; and sisters, Ivy Krau, Evy Hall, Ruthell Kelly, Myrtle Riddle, Florence Fountain.
Memorials may be made in Mrs. Ansley’s memory to Pine Forest Baptist Church, 435 Pine Forest Road, Ochlocknee, GA 31773.
The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Home on Saturday, October 1, 2016, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
