Gary Wesley Sumner

Gary Wesley Sumner, 62, of Cairo, GA, passed away at his home in Grady County, GA, on Monday afternoon, October 3, 2016. In keeping with Gary’s wishes, no services will be held. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mr. Sumner was born on January 29, 1954, in Thomasville, GA, to the late Howard Lewis Sumner, Sr. and Frances Collins Sumner. On June 14, 1975, he married Janet Brock Sumner, who survives. He was employed with Georgia Farm Bureau Insurance as an insurance salesman. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cairo. Gary was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

Survivors include: wife, Janet Brock Sumner of Cairo, GA; daughters, Erin Sumner of Cairo, GA; Elizabeth Gainous (Mark) of Cairo, GA; grandchildren, Abe, McCartney, Ada Lee, Gus, all of Cairo, GA; brothers, Lewis Sumner of Birmingham, AL, Andy Sumner (Debbie) of Cairo, GA; sister, Karen Sumner (Neill Hoch) of Atlanta, GA; sisters-in-law, Joyce Perkins (Virgil) of Cairo, GA, Sara Green of Carrabelle, FL; brothers-in-law, Edgar Brock (Jeannie) of Cairo, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
