Memorial services for Alethia Kemp Smith, 88, of Cairo, GA, are at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 6, 2017, at the Chapel of Clark Funeral Home, Cairo, GA. Pastor Johnny Moore will officiate. Services will conclude at the Chapel. Private interment will be in the Cairo Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Ms. Kemp passed away at Bainbridge Memorial Manor in Bainbridge, GA, on Thursday, November 17, 2016.
Ms. Smith was born on September 25, 1928, in Cairo, GA, to the late James McDonald Kemp and Hattie Duncan Kemp. She was a retired registered nurse and worked with Archbold Memorial Hospital and Southwestern State Hospital in Thomasville for many years. She was a member of Eastside Baptist Church in Cairo.
Survivors include: son, Mike Russell (Brenda) of Cairo, GA; daughter, Elizabeth Wallace (Tom) of Stuart, VA; grandchildren, Caroline Wallace of Helena MT, Anna Wallace of Missoula, MT; Alex Russell of Cairo, GA, Rachel Russell Baggett (Kevin) of Cairo, GA; great-grandson, Clinton Emory Baggett of Cairo, GA; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; her first husband, William W. Russell; her second husband, Freddie F. Smith; brother, James Bryant Kemp; and a sister, Virginia Claire Kemp Snedeker.
The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Home on Friday, January 6, 2017, immediately following the memorial service.
