Emory Elkins

Funeral services for Emory Elkins, 95, of Tallahassee, FL, are at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at Chapel Hill Baptist Church, Tallahassee, FL. Pastor Jeff Teague will officiate. Interment will be at 2:00 p.m. in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Mr. Elkins passed away at his home in Tallahassee, FL, surrounded by his loving family on Friday night, April 14, 2017.
Active pallbearers will be Emory Maxwell, Billy Maxwell, Wiley Meggs, Richard Flowers, Jarrett Lafferty and Caleb Powell.
Mr. Elkins was born on February 3, 1922, in Cairo, GA, to the late Gedie Elkins and Lillian Ulmer Elkins. He served his country in the United States Navy. On November 22, 1942, he married Mae Bess Blanton Elkins, who preceded him in death on July 27, 2001. Emory was the Tallahassee VFW Post Commander four terms and District Commander two terms. He was retired from retail tire sales and from management of his restaurant in Seagrove Beach, FL.
Survivors include: daughters, Sandy Maxwell of Tallahassee, FL, Judy Meggs (Willie) of Tallahassee, FL, Linda Presnell (Greg) of Seagrove Beach, FL, Jodie Lafferty (Alan) of Tallahassee, FL; grandchildren, Emory Maxwell, Billy Maxwell, Trisha Pate, Melissa Powell, Wiley Meggs, Shelley Johnson, Emily Revell, Richard Flowers, Jarrett Lafferty, Neeley Cook; 23 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Mabel Thomas of Cairo, GA.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; a grandchild, Sirella Johnson; his sister, Lucy Jones; and his brother, Clower Elkins.
The family will receive friends at Chapel Hill Baptist Church on Wednesday, April 19, 2017, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
