John R. Pearce

Funeral services for John Raney Pearce, 70, of Whigham, GA, are at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 5, 2017, at Providence Baptist Church, Whigham, GA. Elder Jon Mizell will officiate. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Mr. Pearce passed away at his home in Whigham, GA, on Wednesday morning, August 2, 2017.

Active pallbearers will be his fellow workers with the Grady County EMC.

Mr. Pearce was born on April 5, 1947, in Cairo, GA, to the late Harvey L. Pearce and Dessie L. Albrittan Pearce. On January 3, 1974, he married Margie Sue Byrd Pearce, who survives. He was employed for 32 years with the Grady EMC as a right of way supervisor. He was a member of Piedmont Primitive Baptist Church in Calvary. John loved carpentry work. He could build anything and has built several homes. He loved to hunt and fish. He enjoyed family cookouts and get togethers.

Survivors include: his wife of 43 years, Margie Sue Byrd Pearce of Whigham, GA; stepsons, Edsel “Al” Byrd (Dolores) of Whigham, GA, Joseph Byrd (Caroly) of Whigham, GA, Robert Byrd (Ethel) of Cuthbert, GA; grandson, Gabriel Garcia (Shannon) of Whigham, GA; 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild; brothers, Bobby Pearce (Lois) of Cairo, GA, Jerry Pearce (Linda) of Cairo, GA; sister, Martha Hawthorne of Cairo, GA; sister-in-law, Phyllis Pearce of Cairo, GA; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; stepson, Richard Robinson; brothers, Wayne Pearce, Marcus Pearce, Maurice Pearce, Melvin Pearce, James Pearce, Marlin Pearce; and sisters, Lila Mae Perkins, Lillian Rich.

The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Home on Friday, August 4, 2017, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
