Funeral services for Carl David Maxwell, 71, of Cairo, GA, are at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 29, 2017, at Cairo Presbyterian Church, Cairo, GA. Pastor Becky Willis will officiate. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo, GA, with Military Honors. Mr. Maxwell passed away at his home in Cairo, GA, on Tuesday, September 26, 2017.
Active pallbearers will be Kent Dumas, Ryan McDougal, Mike Gainous, Dale Delk, Johnny Mack Butler and Tim Watson. Honorary pallbearers will be Ronald Sellars, Calvin Harrison, Robert Bearden, Gary Jones, Leland Barrineau, Steve Akridge, Carlton Hancock and Tommy Brinkley.
Mr. Maxwell was born on August 18, 1946, in Thomasville, GA, to the late Roland Harry Maxwell, Sr., and Lucille Singletary Maxwell. Carl was a 1966 graduate of Cairo High School. He served his country in the United States Navy Seabees and in Vietnam. On October 24, 1970, he married Kathie Harrell Maxwell, who survives. He was owner and operator of Harry’s Amoco. He also worked for the Grady County Road Department until his retirement. He was a member, Deacon and Elder of Cairo Presbyterian Church. He had served as president for the Jaycees and Rotary Club, and was awarded the Paul Harris Award. He founded the Dixie Biker Club. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited, Wild Turkey, and also was a past president of the National Wild Turkey Federation.
Survivors include: his wife, Kathie Harrell Maxwell of Cairo, GA; son, Michael Maxwell of Cairo, GA; grandchildren, Carlie Maxwell of Bainbridge, GA, Logan Davidson Maxwell of Quitman, GA; sister, Luann Maxwell of Cairo, GA; mother-in-law, Ellen Harrell of Cairo, GA; sister-in-law, Cindy Maxwell of Cairo, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family. The family extends a special thank you to all our good friends of Hospice of Southwest Georgia.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; brother, Roland Maxwell; and a sister, Claudia Dice.
Memorials may be made in Mr. Maxwell’s memory to: Alzheimer’s Association, American Heart Association or a charity of your choosing.
The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Home on Thursday, September 28, 2017, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
