Born and raised near Lake Seminole, GA, Hiram was a farmer for the first part of his adult life. Poochie, as he was fondly called, was an avid sportsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the occasional golf game. Over the years, his knowledge of Lake Seminole and fishing prowess allowed him to help countless people better their fishing skills. Though always a devoted father and family man, when his health took a turn for the worse, he took on a new role: stay at home dad to Amber and Kyle. More recently, as Amber and Kyle became parents, his focus changed from being Daddy to being Pawpaw. Even after suffering a stroke, he found ways to communicate his love by “You are My Sunshine” to his children and grandchildren. True to the song, his sunny disposition was a joy and comfort to his family. Despite his body failing him numerous times, he never gave up, and his strength is a inspiration to all who knew him.
He leaves his wife of 35 years, Michelle (Lewis) Alday of Whigham, GA; his daughter, Amber Brinks, Amber’s husband Joel, and their son Jack, all of Macon, GA; his son, Kyle Alday, Kyle’s wife Deanna, and their children Cadence and Roland, all of Franklin, NC. Also surviving are: brothers, Donnie Alday (Charlotte) of Blakely, GA, Lonnie Alday (Harriet) of Brinson, GA and Garland Alday of Lake Seminole, GA; sister, Jill Sandera of Lake Seminole, GA; mother-in-law, Myrtle Ann Lewis of Whigham, GA; and brother-in-law, Greg Lewis (Juanita) of Byron, GA; along with a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Calvin “Pete” and Edna Alday; his brother, Danny Alday; his father-in-law, Jack Lewis; and his brother-in-law, Tom Sandera.
Memorials may be made in Mr. Alday’s memory to: Butler Cemetery, P. O. Box 91, Whigham, GA 39897; or Magnolia Baptist Church, P. O. Box 377, Whigham, GA 39897.
