Funeral services for Vernon Joseph Thompson, 67, of Cairo, GA, are at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 20, 2018, at Tabernacle Baptist Church, Cairo, GA. Rev. Miles Carter will officiate. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Cairo, GA, with Military Honors. Mr. Thompson passed away at Grady General Hospital, Cairo, GA, on Wednesday, January 17, 2018.
Active pallbearers will be Dale Harrison, Dillon Guerrero, Aaron Flesher, Walker Willis, Sean Williams, Brian Flesher, Seth French and Daniel Friley.
Mr. Thompson was born on April 11, 1950, in Van Wert, OH, to the late Lewis Vernon Thompson and Jane Elizabeth Fox Thompson. He served his country in the United States Navy, having served during the Vietnam War. On August 26, 1985, he married Beverley Gregory Thompson, who survives. He retired from IMMI, of Westfield, IN, and was the co-owner of Extreme Mow and Go. Vern was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church since 2015.
Survivors include: wife, Beverley Thompson of Cairo, GA; sons, Dale Harrison (Tabitha) of Cairo, GA, Bryan Thompson of Willard, OH, Samuel Thompson (Lisa) of Kite, KY; daughters, Dorina Flesher (Brian) of Indianapolis, IN, Natasha Thompson-Friley (Daniel) of Cairo, GA; 22 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; step-mother, Jean Thompson of Marion, OH; brother, Ronnie Thompson (Rhonda) of OH, Kip Fields (Bonnie) of OH; sisters, Linda Redd, Koneta Thompson, Betty Fields, and Pam Leach of all of Marion, OH; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by: parents; brother, Bobby Dean Thompson.
The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Home on Friday, January 19, 2018, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
