Frankie Harrison Strickland

Funeral services for Frankie Harrison Strickland, 83, of Cairo, GA, are at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at First United Methodist Church, Cairo, GA. Rev. Ron McCaskill and Charlie Barnes will officiate. Services will conclude at the church. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Mrs. Strickland passed away on Friday, February 2, 2018.
Mrs. Strickland was born on February 22, 1934, in Moultrie, GA, to the late Earl Bower Harrison and Emogene Posey Harrison. She was married to Herman Eugene “Strick” Strickland, who passed away on May 7, 1994. She was a member of the Cairo First United Methodist Church.
Frankie was an accomplished woman. A graduate of Cairo High School, editor of the first Raconteur, a majorette and a member of the marching band. While attending Florida State University, she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority and the famous FSU Flying High Circus. After graduating from FSU, she began a countless list of civic activities including The Women’s Club of Cairo, The Garden Club, and the Humane Society. She was one of the first and longest Golden Chief members of Seminole Boosters. Along with her husband Strick, she was one of the founders of Brookwood School in Thomasville, GA. She was also a founding board member of the South Georgia Ballet, board member of the FSU Foundation, board member of Seminole Boosters, board member of FSU School of Communications and past Vice President of the FSU Alumni Association. She was one of the founding members of the University Center Club at FSU and a benefactor for the Distinguished Lecture Series at FSU. She received one of three VIRES Torch awards from the FSU Faculty Senate. She was a passionate, though unofficial, ambassador for abandoned pets and children from less-fortunate families.
Survivors include: daughter, Leanne Derby (Shawn) of Cairo, GA; sons, William Harrison Strickland (Rebecca) of Thomasville, GA, Harrison Eugene Strickland of Thomasville, GA; grandchildren, Shanna Derby of Thomasville, GA, Laurel Lee Derby of New York, NY, W. Harrison Strickland (Sarah)of Hoschton, GA, Lewis Hayden Strickland of Atlanta, GA, Byron Anderson Strickland of Dahlonega, GA, Christian Alexander Strickland of Athens, GA, Geoffrey Eugene Strickland of Ashville, NC; great-grandchildren, Hayden Strickland of Atlanta, GA, Wills Strickland of Hoschton, GA, Caroline Strickland of Hoschton, GA; and a sister, Saress H. Moye of Cairo, GA.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the First United Methodist Church.
