Franklin D. Elkins

Funeral services for Franklin D. Elkins, 82, of Cairo, GA, are at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 21, 2018, at the First United Methodist Church, Cairo, GA. Rev. Russ Elkins and Rev. Charles Whatley will officiate. Services will conclude in the church. Private interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Mr. Elkins passed away at his home in Cairo, GA, on Saturday, February 17, 2018.
Active pallbearers will be Bill Elkins, Mike Elkins, Doug Elkins, Lance Elkins, Eddie Harrell, Terry Elkins, Robbie Tedder and Don Hancock. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy McGlamery, Bobby Whigham, Jerry Thomas, Benny Prince, Richard Castillo, Lowell Johnson, Stanley Elkins, Winston Davis, Lynn Nelson, Eric Johnson and Terry Fountain.
Mr. Elkins was born on April 14, 1935, in Cairo, GA, to the late Ivey R. Elkins and Hattie Brady Elkins. On December 27, 1959, he married Eugenia “Jean” VanLandingham Elkins, who survives. Frank was a retired farmer of corn and peanuts, as well as a cattleman. He was awarded Farm Family of the Year in 1973. Frank was a former President of Grady County Farm Bureau and a former Grady County Shrine Club member. He loved animals, hunting and fishing and most of all sharing his produce with others. Frank was a caring and sharing person with a wonderful sense of humor devoted to his family and his Little Red Truck. His love for country music was passed on to his grandchildren and although his singing wasn’t the best he gave it his all especially to any baby in his family. The role he enjoyed the most was being “Dan Dan”. He was a member of Woodland United Methodist Church for over 70 years and served many offices within the church.
Survivors include: his wife of 58 years, Jean VanLandingham Elkins of Cairo, GA; daughters, Robin Glenn of Cairo, GA, Renn West (Lawrence) of Cairo, GA; grandchildren, Nicole West (Sarah) of Valdosta, GA, Brooke Jones (Jeremy) of Cairo, GA, Meghan Coleman (Todd) of West Columbia, SC, Brittani Miller (Chris) of Cairo, GA, Lawren Phillips (J. T.) of Whigham, GA, Brandie Cecil (Blake) of Bainbridge, GA, Luke West (Kaylyn Brinson) of Cairo, GA; great-grandchildren, Hardy West, Turner Jones, Gentry Jones, Bo Coleman, Alex Miller, Bree Turner, Kaden Miller, Jesse Weaver, Bryson Bennett, Piper Phillips; brothers, Billy Elkins of Cairo, GA, David Elkins (Catherine) of Cairo, GA; sister-in-law, Dorothy Elkins of Cairo, GA; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; sister, Martha Harrell; and brothers, Pierce Elkins, Lavaughn Elkins, Jimmy Elkins.

The family will receive friends at Woodland United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall on Tuesday, February 20, 2018, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
