Ellen Gainous Hester

Funeral services for Ellen Virginia Gainous Hester, 82, of Cairo, GA, are at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, June 3, 2018, at El Bethel Baptist Church, Whigham, GA. Pastor Bob Knight will officiate. Private interment will be held in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Mrs. Hester passed away at Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville, GA, on Friday, June 1, 2018.

Active pallbearers will be Roger Gainous, Jr., Leon Gainous, Barry Gainous, Jeremy Gainous, Kenneth Salter, Wayne Johnson and Dustin Starling. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Forrester,
Jerry Pritchett, Earl Stuckey, Joe Hash, Bo Ladner, Bob Porter and Randy Moore.

Mrs. Hester was born on February 25, 1936, in Cairo, GA, to the late Alexander Gainous and Pearl Lee Gainous. On August 18, 1956, she married Everett G. “Bunk” Hester, who preceded her in death on February 20, 2003. She was a home maker and a member of El Bethel Baptist Church.

Survivors include: sons, Neal Hester of Cairo, GA, Glenn Hester (Lisa) of Cairo, GA; grandchildren, Neal Hester, Jr. (Amanda), Kevin Hester (Abigail), Brittany Hester Womble (Daniel), Cameron Hester (Becca) all of Cairo, GA; great-grandchildren, Nate Hester, Austin Hester, Tanner Womble, Landon Womble, Cooper Womble, Gracie Hester, Lawson Hester, Briar Hester and Colton Hester, all of Cairo, GA; and a brother, Roger Gainous (Marie) of Cairo, GA.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband; brother, Quinn Gainous; and a sister, Pansy Gainous.

The family will receive friends at El Bethel Baptist Church the hour prior to the service.
