Memorial services for Jan Stapleton Simmons, 64, of Cairo, GA and Tallahassee, FL, are at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 11, 2019, at First United Methodist Church, Cairo, GA. Rev. Henry Bass and Rev. Christy Bandy will officiate. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Mrs. Simmons passed away at Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville, GA, on Monday, January 7, 2019.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Roy Forman, Dr. Jeff Crooms, Wyman Richter, Patrick Ouzts, Dr. Cory Hill and Dr. D. J. Underwood.
Mrs. Simmons was born on January 7, 1955, in Savannah, GA, to the late Leroy Smith Stapleton and Sue Nell Jones Stapleton. On August 9, 1980, she married Doug Simmons, who survives. She was the first female to graduate from the Medical College of Georgia with a Physician Assistant Degree. She retired from Capital Health Plan in Tallahassee, FL. She was a member of the Cairo First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include: her husband, Doug Simmons of Cairo, GA; daughters, Dr. Ansley Simmons of Cairo, GA, Jana Simmons of Los Angeles, CA, Alea Simmons of Cairo, GA; and a sister, Fay Burnett (Brock) of Winder, GA. She was preceded in death by her parents.

The family will receive immediately following the memorial service in the Fellowship Hall of the First United Methodist Church.
