John Ronald “Johnny” Hurst

Funeral services for John Ronald “Johnny” Hurst, 68, of Cairo, GA, are at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 16, 2019, at the Cairo Church of Christ, 289 12th Ave. NE, Cairo, GA. Pastor Dale Cooper, Pastor Joe Peet and Mr. Spence Steedley will officiate. Services will conclude at the church. Private interment will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Mr. Hurst passed away at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, Tallahassee, FL, on Saturday, July 13, 2019.

Active pallbearers will be Nathan Harrell, Braxton Harrell, Steve Bonham, Chris Dorsey, Larry Hudson and Russell Register.

Mr. Hurst was born on May 15, 1951, in Pelham, GA, to the late John Henry Hurst and Lillian Barksdale Hurst. On June 5, 1971, he married Sue Hurst, who survives. They were married for 48 years. A self-educated man, Mr. Hurst retired after many years of service as the Body Shop Manager at Hobson Chevrolet. He also served as an elder at the Cairo Church of Christ, where he was a life-long member. His Christian faith was the driving force in his life. Through it, his family experienced the greatest love a husband, father, and grandfather could give. Through it, new acquaintances became friends, and friends became like family. And most importantly, through it, all who knew him were blessed.

Suvivors include: his wife, Sue Hurst of Cairo, GA; daughters, Samantha Steedley (Spence) of Churchtown, PA, Olivia Bonham (Steve) of Martinez, CA; grandchildren, Nathan Harrell, Braxton Harrell, both of Cairo, GA, Welles Harrell of Churchtown, PA, Shelby Bonham, Henry Bonham, both of Martinez, CA; and a sister, June Hurst of Whigham, GA. He was preceded in death by his parents.
