Virginia West McAteer

Virginia West McAteer, 93, of Cairo, GA, passed away at Thomasville Nursing & Rehab Center in Thomasville, GA, on Wednesday, March 25, 2020. Interment will be Laurel Hill Cemetery in Thomasville, GA. The family will have a memorial service at a later date.

Mrs. McAteer was born on December 5, 1926, in Tampa, FL, to the late James Auburn “J.A.” West and Mabel Atkinson West. On January 16, 1960, she married Robert William McAteer, who preceded her in death on June 18, 1980. She was a sales associate with the F. W. Woolworth Company. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Cairo. Virginia was an absolute amazing mom to her family.

Survivors include: children, Marty McAteer (VickyAnn) of Salida, CA, Edward Harvey (Susan) of Salida, CA, Marian McAteer (Kent) of Cedar Creek, TX, William R. McAteer (Maxine) of Cairo, GA; grandchildren, Jennifer Aguilar of Manteca, CA, Jon Christ of Casper, WY, Robert McAteer of Manteca, CA, Kristina Carter of Mountain House, CA, Kimberely Harvey (David) of Los Angeles, CA, Jeffrey Harvey (Cindy) of Los Angeles, CA, April McClelland of Cedar Creek, TX, Natasha Knight of Clear Lake City, TX, Jessica Nicole Merritt of Cairo, GA, Jordan West McAteer of Cairo, GA; and a host of great-grandchildren in California, Texas, Wyoming and Georgia. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
