Vasco Lamar Butler

Funeral services for Vasco Lamar Butler, 77, of Cairo, GA, are on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at Pine Hill Baptist Church, Cairo, GA. Rev. Duke Hammond will officiate. Mr. Butler passed away at the Big Bend Hospice Center in Tallahassee, FL, on Sunday, September 27, 2020.
Active pallbearers will be Chance Cunningham, Connor Cunningham, Jonathan Bottomy, Brian Bottomy, Nicolas Weaver, Sterling Edwards and Leon “PeeWee” Butler, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Knight, Walter Maxwell, Arthur Maxwell, Jay Corbett, James Oats, Dennis Mitchell and Jackie Williams.
Mr. Butler was born on August 19, 1943, in Cairo, GA, to the late Vasco Butler and Lexa Alice Sutton Butler. On June 28, 1963, he married Gwendolyn Jeanette Butler, who survives. Lamar was a supervisor with American General Insurance Company. He was a member of Pine Hill Baptist Church. Mr. Butler loved his family first, Cairo High School & Georgia Bulldog football, horses and cooking. To say he was deep rooted is an understatement. He worked the same job as a life insurance agent his whole life and lived on the same land he was raised on. He never met a stranger, always making jokes & was never afraid to speak his mind. Mr. Butler will truly be missed by everyone he met.
Survivors include: his wife, Gwen Butler of Cairo, GA; children, Celene Cunningham (Clay) of Panama City, FL, Kimberly Bottomy (Chris) of Panama City, FL, Candace Weaver (Joel) of Tallahassee, FL, Allyson Golightly (Kendall) of Roswell, GA; grandchildren, Chance Cunningham of Panama City, FL, Connor Cunningham of Panama City, FL, Jonathan Bottomy of Tallahassee, FL, Brian Bottomy of Tallahassee, FL, Emily Weaver of Tallahassee, FL, Alayna Weaver of Tallahassee, FL, Nicolas Weaver of Tallahassee, FL, Lexa Weaver of Tallahassee, FL, Ava Golightly of Roswell, GA, Quinn Golightly of Roswell, GA; and a great-grandchild, Jace Alexander Weaver. He was preceded in death by his parents.
