Wilbert Patrick “Pat” Ernst

Memorial services for Wilbert Patrick “Pat” Ernst, 71, of Cairo, GA, are on Wednesday, April 7, 2021, outdoors at Capel Baptist Church, Cairo, GA.  Rev. Stan Godwin and Rev. Robert Crapps will officiate.  Mr. Ernst passed away at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital in Tallahassee, FL, on Sunday, April 4, 2021.

Mr. Ernst was born on December 19, 1949, in Los Angeles, CA, to the late Donald Ray Ernst and Betty Jean Young Penney.   On April 16, 1993, he married Diannia Butler Ernst, who survives.  He worked with the State of Florida as a Legislative Assistant to Representative Walter Young in Broward County until the Representative retired.  Pat then ran for that vacant legislative seat but lost the election.  He then relocated to Cairo and worked with several departments in the State of Florida until his retirement. After Pat retired, he became involved with English as the Second Language Ministry and he worked with the Grady County Jail Ministry.  He was a member of Capel Baptist Church in Cairo.

Survivors include: his wife, Diannia Ernst of Cairo, GA; mother, Betty Jean Penney of Cairo, GA; and a brother, Robert Michael Ernst of Cairo, GA.  He was preceded in death by his father and his son, Thomas Ernst.
