Adelaide McCollough Newberry
October 19, 1941 – April 16, 2021

Graveside funeral services for Adelaide Lucille McCollough Newberry, 79, of Whigham, GA, are at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 20, 2021, in Woodlawn Cemetery, Whigham, GA.  Rev. David Hibberts will officiate.  Mrs. Newberry passed away at her home on Friday, April 16, 2021.

Mrs. Newberry was born on October 19, 1941, in Kingsland, GA, to the late Leonard McCollough and Annis Peoples McCollough.   On March 18, 1961, she married Kelly Newberry, who survives.  She worked as a secretary for the Standard Oil Company and later was a homemaker.  She was a member of Springhill United Methodist Church in Whigham.  Her loving grandchildren, who were the joy of her life, called her “Nanny.”  Adelaide loved her family, flowers, gardening and the beach.

Survivors include: her husband, Kelly Newberry of Whigham, GA; daughter, Angela Mattone (Ralph) of Lexington, SC; daughter-in-law, Jenni L. Newberry of Whigham, GA; grandchildren, Ashlee Murray (Tom) of Boynton Beach, FL, Christopher Mattone of Plantation, FL, Emily Brittingham (Jim) of Boise, ID, Madison Mapp (Branton) of Denver, CO, Kelly Newberry of Atlanta, GA, Jacob Newberry of Whigham, GA; great-grandchildren, Bryson Murray of Boynton Beach, FL; brother, Dwight McCullough (Brenda) of St. Marys, GA; sister, Eileen Cook (Teddy) of Kingsland, GA; and a host of nieces and extended family.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; her son, James Ronald “Ron” Newberry; and a nephew, Darwin McCullough.
