Joseph Wayne Cannon
August 25, 1942 – August 17, 2022

Graveside funeral services for Joseph Wayne Cannon, 79, of Cairo, GA, are at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, August 20, 2022, in the Cairo Cemetery, Cairo, GA.  Rev. Charles Parker will officiate.  Full Military Honors will be presented at the cemetery.  Mr. Cannon passed away at his home on August 17, 2022.

Honorary pallbearers will be Rodney Harrison, Danny Lee, John Henry Mitchell, Robert Nelson, Mark Nelson, Stanley Harrison, Terry Hartman and Carey VanLandingham.

Mr. Cannon was born on August 25, 1942, in Cairo, GA, to the late Joseph Lindsay Cannon and Eunice Iris Brady Cannon.  After graduation from Cairo High School, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving 20 years and retiring at the rank of Senior Master Sergeant.  At the end of his military career, Wayne returned to Grady County and farmed with his dad.  He held several public jobs before his final retirement.  On October 3, 1976, he married Sara Jane Butler Cannon and they have been married for over 45 years.

He is survived by his wife, Sara Jane Cannon, a daughter, Barbara Jean Norris of Cairo; and a son, SMSGT Ret. David Wayne Cannon of Cairo.  He is also survived by one brother, James Wendell (Delinda) Cannon of Cairo.   He has a niece, Stephanie Cannon-Hedrick and nephew, Jeffrey Cannon.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Wounded Warriors, Vietnam War Memorial or a military charity of your choice.

The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Home, on Saturday, August 20, 2022, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.
