Betty Miller Clark
January 31, 1932 – November 24, 2022
A life-long resident of Cairo, GA, Betty Miller Clark, 90, passed away on November 24, 2022 after long life well-lived. Betty epitomized the lifestyle of a woman motivated by her faith and her passion to take care of her family and to help others.
On January 31, 1932, in Cairo, GA, Betty Mae Miller was born to the late Eugene Miller and to the late Pearlie Pyles Miller, and stepdaughter to the late Josephine Miller. For nearly fifty years, she was married to the late J. Rogers Clark, known to his family and friends as Buddy. They were both active members of First Baptist Church for most of their lives. Betty lived a life of faith and served her Lord in her church, serving on various committees, teaching Sunday School, and as a member of the choir.
Betty was a homemaker extraordinaire and an unusual Southern woman who could set an elegant table, arrange floral bouquets, serve delicious meals, and yet she loved the outdoors and could swing a golf club and was an avid fisherwoman. She would often return home to find that some golfer friend had stopped by for a slice of cake or pie which they knew they’d find at Betty’s house. Sharing delights from her kitchen was part of her love language. She enjoyed creating, and her hands were always busy baking, sewing, painting, doing needlework, crocheting, and ceramics. She gifted her family and many of her friends with beautiful items she had made. She invested herself in her family as a caregiver to her husband, his parents, and her father. She also was active in her community in the garden club and volunteering as a Gray Lady at the local hospital for many years.
Those who loved her and are left behind are her son, Phillip J. Clark and wife Jill, and her daughter, Phyllis Clark Nichols and husband Bill, her sister Susan Miller Chastain and husband Mike. Other survivors include three grandchildren, Chelsea Clark of Cairo, Kimberly Dolch, and Christy Quinn, of San Antonio, TX, and a nephew, Dr. Daniel B. Chastain and his wife Joeanna of Leesburg, GA. She leaves behind three great grandchildren—Austin Dolch, Samantha Quinn, and Kylie Tate Quinn all of San Antonio, TX, and her grandnephew, Daniel B. Chastain, Jr. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband J. Rogers (Buddy) Clark in 1996 and her sister Marguerite Lewis in 2015.
