Funeral services for Billy Ronald “Ronnie” Widener, 79, of Cairo, GA, are at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, March 5, 2023, at Eastside Baptist Church, Cairo, GA. Rev. Danny Hendrix and Rev. Matt Vickers will officiate. Private interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Mr. Widener passed away at Legacy Village in Thomasville, GA, on Thursday, March 2, 2023.
Active pallbearers will be his grandsons and Earl Prince.
Mr. Widener was born on July 2, 1943, in Cairo, GA, to the late L.Z. Widener and Una Mae Crew Widener. On May 20, 1967, he married Elaine Ready Widener, who survives. He was a retired insurance salesman with Liberty National Life Insurance and later was a car salesman with the Ford dealership in Cairo. He was a devoted lifetime member of Eastside Baptist Church. In his free time, Ronnie enjoyed wading the Ochlocknee River to fish, and hunting with his three boys. He was also an avid musician and played multiple instruments by ear. He loved telling others about his love for his wife, sons, daughters-in-law and grandsons.
Survivors include: his wife, Elaine Widener of Cairo, GA; sons, Tony Widener (Michelle) of St. Cloud, FL, Terry Widener (Amy) of Tallahassee, FL, Tim Widener of Cairo, GA; grandchildren, Luke Widener, Ian Widener of Tallahassee, FL, Wyatt Widener of Ft. Benning, GA, Kaedan Widener of St. Cloud, FL; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Nell Widener of Cairo, GA, Sarah Coker of Cairo, GA, Herman and Helen Ready of Cairo, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; sister, Margaret Long and her husband, Bobby; brother, John Widener; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Evelyn Ready.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mr. Widener’s memory to: Eastside Baptist Church Building Fund, P. O. Box 749, Cairo, GA 39828.
The family wants to extend their deepest heartfelt thanks and love to Latesha Rooks and her staff at Legacy Village in Thomasville for their love, care, and kindness given to Ronnie over the last four years. They would also like to thank Gentiva Hospice for their attention and care during these last months, as well as Dr. Mark Hudson.
The family will receive friends at Eastside Baptist Church on Sunday, March 5, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.
