James Edward “Ed” Hall
June 25, 1939 – April 10, 2023
James Edward (Ed) Hall, born June 25, 1939, died at age 83, Monday, April 10, 2023, at Senior Care Brunswick, in Brunswick, Georgia following a long illness. Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 21, 2023, at the First United Methodist Church of Milledgeville with Rev. Drs. Mac Enfinger and Judson Hodges officiating. Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 22, 2023, at the Greenwood Cemetery in Cairo, Georgia.
Ed was born June 25, 1939, in Cairo, Georgia to parents Alton and Edna Sutton Hall. Ed grew up in Cairo and attended Emory University and Emory University Law School. He made his home in Milledgeville, Georgia, where he practiced law for many years before retiring in 2010. He married Patricia Blackwell Hall of Ocilla, Georgia who predeceased him.
Ed was devoted to his large extended family, which included his parents, his four brothers, Ronald Alton “Ronnie” Hall, Joseph Seaborn “Joe” Hall, Jack Heard “Jack” Hall, and Robert Lee “Bob” Hall, and his eldest sister, Mary Ramell Hall Skinner, all of whom predeceased him. He is the uncle to many nieces and nephews and has numerous cousins still living. Spending time with family and sharing family lore was one of his greatest joys.
He was also active in the community, serving in leadership capacities in the Milledgeville Rotary Club, the Georgia Rotary Student Program, the Milledgeville and Baldwin County Chamber of Commerce, the Milledgeville Jaycees, the Baldwin County Progressive Farmer’s Club, the Salvation Army, and the Gideons. In the First United Methodist Church he served as a Sunday School teacher, a member of the Administrative Board, chief cook for the United Methodist Men, and a volunteer for the Kairos Prison Ministry.
Survivors include his three sons, James E. Hall, Jr. of Brunswick, Georgia, Joel Bennett Hall (Kathryn) of Savannah, and Thomas Marshall Hall (Melanie) of Darien, Georgia, a sister, Jan Taylor of Richmond, Virginia, and a brother, Joel Felton Blackwell, Jr. of San Francisco, California, six grandchildren, Brian Matthew Hall, Shawn Michael Hall, Elizabeth Rainey Hall, Ella Kathryn Hall, Mercer Mackay Hall, and Samuel Manning Hall, two great-grandchildren, Gavin and Jack Hall.
