Funeral services for Robert Eugene “Gene” Thomas, 87, of Whigham, GA, are at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at Springhill Methodist Church, Whigham, GA. Rev. Tommy Wright will officiate. Interment will be in Springhill Methodist Church Cemetery, Whigham, GA. Mr. Thomas passed away at his home on Sunday, August 6, 2023.
Active pallbearers will be Jordan Burks, Weston Crawford, Johnathan Thomas, Robbie Thomas, Greg Ponder, Scott Morrison. Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Morrison and Bobby Whigham.
Mr. Thomas was born on September 28, 1935, in Whigham, GA, to the late Robert Henry Thomas and Estelle Vera Elkins Thomas. He served his country in the United States Army in the Airborne Division. On December 21, 1957, he married Janice Salter Thomas, who preceded him in death on January 18, 2023. He was self-employed as a farmer and welder-fabricator. He was a member of Springhill Methodist Church in Whigham.
Survivors include: children, Tammy Crawford (Elton) of Whigham, GA, Lisa Burks (Randy) of Cairo, GA; grandchildren, Johnathan Thomas of (Natasha) of Indian Land, SC, Jordan Burks of Hiawassee, GA, Brandi S. Crevar (Alex) of Jacksonville, FL, Robbie Thomas of Rome, GA, Thomas Weston Crawford of Whigham, GA, Michaelia Crawford of Valdosta, GA; great-grandson, Axel Burks of Hiawassee, GA, Johnnie Thomas of Indian Land, SC; brother-in-law, Doug Hawthorne of Whigham, GA; sister-in-law, Suzanne Thomas of Whigham, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife; son, Robert Marvin “Bobby” Thomas; brothers, Jerry O’Neal Thomas, Bill Thomas; and sisters, Mary Ann Thomas, Emily T. Hawthorne Donnie T. Blackburn and Rosa Nelle Thomas.
