JoAnne was a true Southern lady “clothed in dignity and strength.”  She loved caring for family, friends and those in need.  She was a devoted wife to Larry, a supportive mom to Jamie, Patti and Kim and a loving Nene to her grandchildren.  She enjoyed cooking and hosting gatherings for family and friends— a gift she passed down to her children and grandchildren.  She was happiest working in her yard and tending to her beautiful flowers.  JoAnne loved Eastside Baptist Church where she served in the nursery for many years.  She was an active member of the Homemakers’ Sunday School Class, and she treasured her many friendships with the ladies.  JoAnne knew the Lord, and we can all have assurance that she is at peace with her Lord and Savior.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Miles Chester Murphy and Irene Fain Murphy, brother Roger Murphy, her former husband, Hal McCorkle and her beloved English Bulldog, Tutu.

JoAnne is survived by her husband Larry Brinkley, her son Jamie McCorkle (Angie), her daughters Patti Brinkley Chellman, Kim Cowart (Ben), her sister Sharon Mashburn (Wayne), grandchildren Nick McCorkle, Drake McCorkle, Meghan Chellman Cunningham (Paul), Morgan Cowart, Dr. Taylor Cowart McCormick (Jackson), Riley Cowart, her lifelong friends Ann Crew Godwin and Martha Bell and a host of relatives from the Brinkley, McCorkle, and Murphy families.

Friends and family will be received at JoAnne and Larry’s residence.  Also, the family will receive friends at Eastside Baptist Church on Sunday, November 26, 2023, from 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m.

In honor of JoAnne, donations can be made to: Eastside Baptist Church, P. O. Box 749, Cairo, GA 39828.
