Irwin Anthony Gandy
November 4, 1931 – December 1, 2023
Irwin Anthony Gandy passed away peacefully on December 1, 2023, at the age of 92. He was living at the Georgia War Veterans Home in Milledgeville, Georgia. He is survived by his wife, Marion Underwood Gandy, his daughters, Gale Gandy Lee, Donna (Lynn) Laycock, Carol (Robert) Faye Fleitz, granddaughters, Sarah Lee, Lian and Emily Laycock, and great-granddaughter, Madison Knight.
He was born in Cairo, Georgia, November 4, 1931, to Early and Lillie Ponder Gandy. Growing up he worked on the family dairy farm and played football for Cairo High School Syrupmakers. After graduating from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, he joined the United States Air Force where he served on bases in France, Taiwan and across the US. After 20 years in the USAF, he retired with his family to Cairo where he spent the next 20 years as an Appliance Serviceman. Following his second retirement he spent several years travelling in his motor home all across the US and Canada. Eventually settling in Flowery Branch, Georgia where he enjoyed his passion for sailing on Lake Lanier. Irwin enjoyed many other interests including horses, motorcycles, and growing roses. He will be missed and fondly remembered by his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents Early and Lillie Ponder Gandy, brothers Bobby Austin and Earnest Earl Gandy and the mother of his children, Emily (Zeigler) Gandy.
His family will have a private memorial for him.
