Cary Neil Mayer
January 31, 1951 – January 16, 2024  

Funeral services for Cary Neil Mayer, 72, of Whigham, GA, are at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, January 21, 2024, at El Bethel Baptist Church, Whigham, GA.  Dr. Bob Knight will officiate.  Interment will be in Magnolia Baptist Church Cemetery, Whigham, GA.  Mr. Mayer passed away at his home on Tuesday, January 16, 2024.

Mr. Mayer was born on January 31, 1951, in Cairo, GA, to the late Virginia Logue Gainous.  Neil was raised by his grandparents and later on by Ted Gainous.  On April 28, 2002, he married Mary Ottum Mayer, who survives.  Neil was a dedicated educator and worked at Cairo High School.  He was currently training future linemen with Southern Regional Technical College.  His favorite hobby was base jumping from fixed objects using a parachute to descend safely to the ground.  He was a member of El Bethel Baptist Church in Whigham.

Survivors include: his wife, Mary Mayer of Whigham, GA; siblings, Susan Fowler of North Carolina, Teddy Jacobs of Bradenton, FL, Gina Owens of Bradenton, FL,  Michael Mayer (Teri) of Bradenton, FL; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Neil’s memory to: Miss Kitty Feline Sanctuary, 425 Covington Ave., Thomasville, GA 31792; or El Bethel Baptist Church, P. O. Box 367, Whigham, GA 39897.

The family will receive friends at El Bethel Baptist Church immediately following the funeral service.
