Funeral services for Dora Long Bennett, 92, of Cairo, GA, are at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 16, 2024, at Hilltop Bible Baptist Church, Cairo, GA. Rev. Kenneth Cloud, Rev. David Harrell and Rev. Glen Scoggin will officiate. Interment will be in Cairo Cemetery. Mrs. Bennett passed away at Grady General Hospital, Cairo, GA, on Tuesday, February 13, 2024.
Active pallbearers will be David Harrell, Patrick Ouzts, Jacob Harrell, Drew Harrell, Tyler Fowler and Ted Long.
Mrs. Bennett was born on October 6, 1931, in Cairo, GA, to the late George Claxton Long and Ruth Lewis Long. On August 6, 1981, she married Wayne Rufus Bennett, and he preceded her in death on October 13, 2007.
She was a born-again believer of the Baptist faith & a faithful member of Hilltop Bible Baptist Church in Cairo, GA. She was a retired beautician and got her start with Mildred Martin and later moved in the Midway community where she set up her own shop from home. She also loved working in her yards planting a variety of flowers. She loved picking & arranging flower arrangements for the church on Sundays. She also enjoyed crocheting blankets and afghans for friends and family. She had a love for fishing, and you could often find her fishing in her pond or at the river. She was very proud of her family, especially her two grandchildren & loved the fact that they served the Lord together with their families at church and in the music ministry. She will always be remembered for her big smile that she always had when people saw her.
Survivors include: her daughter, Faye Harrell (Jerry) of Cairo, GA; granddaughter, Julie Ouzts (Patrick) of Cairo, GA; grandson, David Harrell (Becky) of Cairo, GA; great-grandchildren, Jacob Harrell, Breanna Harrell, Drew Harrell, April Fowler (Tyler); great-great-grandchildren, Noah, Kate and Leah; sister, Mable York of Thomasville, GA; brothers, James Long (Lula) of Cairo, GA, Robert Long (Sarah) of Cairo, GA; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: her husband; parents, granddaughters, Sherry Lynn Harrell and Carrie Lee Harrell; great-great-grandchild, Ryan Fowler; sister, Mary Walker; brothers, Edgar Long and Roy Long.
The family will receive friends at Hilltop Bible Baptist Church on Friday, February 16, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.
