Mr. Long was born January 10, 1926, to the late Claxton Long and Ruth Lewis Long. On March 4, 1945, he married Lula Daughtry, and they were married for over 79 years.
Mr. Long was an active member of Eastside Baptist Church as long as his health permitted. He was a Trustee and a Deacon, and he served on many committees throughout the church. He served as a Youth Sunday School Leader, and he especially enjoyed working with the Senior Adults in Sunday School. Mr. Long worked as market manager at Bob’s Grocery for 37 years, and afterwards worked at Torringon, retiring in 1991. He enjoyed the simple things in life—working in the yard, sitting in his swing on the back porch, going for rides in the country, fishing, and Joann’s oatmeal raisin cookies and tea cakes.
Mr. Long was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Edgar Long and Roy Long, and his sisters, Mary L. Walker and Dora Bennett.
Survivors include his wife of over 79 years, Lula D. Long; sons, Jim (Joann) of Barwick, GA, and Dennis of Cairo, GA; grandchildren, Jenny (Kipp) Collins of Jesup, GA and Scott Long of Atlanta, GA; great-grandsons, Harris Collins and Alex Collins of Brunswick, GA; brother, Robert Long of Cairo, GA; sister, Mabel York of Thomasville, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
