Funeral services for Laughton James Collins, Sr., 74, of Cairo, GA, are at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 13, 2025, at Eastside Baptist Church, Cairo, GA. Rev. Matt Vickers will officiate. Services will conclude at the church. Private interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Whigham, GA. Mr. Collins passed away at Archbold Memorial Hospital, Thomasville, GA, on Monday, February 10, 2025.
Mr. Collins was born on August 5, 1950, in Punta Gorda, FL, to the late Jim Henry Collins, Sr. and Martha Elizabeth Parker Collins. On June 21, 1973, he married Eva Juanita “Nita” Cook Collins and they were married for over 51 years. He worked as a Foreman for the Georgia Department of Transportation until he retired in 2006. He was a member of Eastside Baptist Church, and in his spare time, enjoyed spending time with family, especially the grand kids.
Survivors include his wife, Eva Juanita “Nita” Collins of Cairo, GA; son, Laughton James Collins, Jr. of Seattle, WA; daughters, Stacey Barrett (Kelly) of Havana, FL and Melissa Gumms (Martin “Marty”) of Cairo, GA; grandchildren, Ashley Sadler (Justin), Alyssa Barrett, Bethany Traylor (Bryan “Tyler”), Bryceton Barrett and Cordelia Gumms; great-grandchildren, Pyper Owens and Parker Louise Traylor (due March, 2025); sisters-in-law, Nancy Collins, Sheila Summerall and Ann Coleman; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and other extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jim Henry Collins; sister, Betty Jean Fowler (Paul); and brother-in-law, Paul Fowler.

The family will receive friends at Eastside Baptist Church on Thursday, February 13, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
