Mrs. Coker passed away at Savannah Court of Camilla in Camilla, GA, on Thursday, April 17, 2025.
Mrs. Coker was born on July 9, 1937, in Climax, GA, to the late John Shelby Tillis and Mattie Mae Doughtry Tillis. On July 9, 1955, she married Walter Franklin Coker, who preceded her in death on June 7, 2016. They were married for over 60 years. She was a devoted homemaker and a member of Providence Baptist Church in Whigham.
“Miss Betty” was also a friend to all. As much as she loved people, she loved Jesus even more. Most conversations with her eventually became conversations about her faith whether she was talking to a family member, friend, or total stranger. She was always sharing her love for Christ with others. Betty was a “stay-at-home” mother, and sometimes kept other children during the summer months when school was out. She loved cooking and was a talented seamstress. She was the primary caretaker for her parents and her husband’s parents as they began to age. Later in life, she worked with her husband in their furniture business where she endeared herself to many of their customers. She worked tirelessly in her church. Over the years, she had many jobs there. She taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and worked with the youth (just to name a few). “Miss Betty” was an unassuming woman who showed kindness and compassion to those around her. She was always willing to give a helping hand or to listen to a problem. She was loved by many, and she will be missed.
