Chauncey Lee “C. L.” Poole

Funeral services for Chauncey Lee “C. L.” Poole, 94, of Cairo, GA, are at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 7, 2015, at the Cairo Church of God, Cairo, GA. Rev. Gerald Horne will officiate. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo, GA, with military honors. Mr. Poole passed away at his home in Grady County, GA, on Thursday, December 3, 2015.
Active pallbearers will be Martin Poole, Donald Poole, Randy Smith, Rayford Harrell, Chad Butler and Shawn Butler. Honorary pallbearers will be Douglas Poole, Gary Poole, Greg Butler, Terry Collins, Ronnie Harrell, Chris Green, Lynn French, Jason Butler and Steve Butler.
Mr. Poole was born on March 31, 1921, in Neeses, SC, to the late Robert Lee Poole and Bessie Cooper Poole. He served his country in the U. S. Army during WWII, participating in the liberation of Europe in Northern France, the Rhineland and Central Europe. Mr. Poole received multiple commendations for his service including three Bronze Service Stars. On March 17, 1947, he married Ester Mae Butler Poole, who preceded him in death on April 4, 1998. For many years he was employed as a supervisor with Wight’s Nursery. Later he retired as superintendent and horticulturist with Winnstead Plantation in Thomasville, GA. He attended the Cairo Church of God.
Survivors include: daughters, Velma Daughtry (Weyman) of Cairo, GA, Beverly Dobson of Cairo, GA; grandchildren, Lee Daughtry (Sondra) of Donalsonville, GA, Connie Clark of Cairo, GA, Kevin Daughtry (Audra) of Stockbridge, GA, Brian Clark of Cairo, GA, Kimberly Calhoun of Cairo, GA; great-grandchildren, Alex Calhoun, Thomas Calhoun, both of Cairo, GA; sister, Peggy Ott of Tallahassee, FL; and a host of nieces and nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by: parents; wife; sisters, Arvonia Wilder, Joyce Black, Videan Nielsen, Patsy Hoard; and brothers, Robert Lenzil Poole, Wilton Poole, Jackie Poole.

The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Home on Sunday, December 6, 2015, from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.
