Anna Vanita Phillips

Anna Vanita Phillips, 94, of Cairo, GA, passed away at Magnolia Place in Cairo, GA, on January 1, 2017. Her family will have a private memorial service at a later date.
Mrs. Phillips was born on October 3, 1922, in Willisville, IL, to the late William Arthur Smith and Edith C. Brandhorst Smith. Vanita was raised and educated in St. Louis, MO. On August 23, 1941, she married Joseph Gordon Phillips, who preceded her in death on April 15, 1997. Vanita was a military wife, who lived all over the world and the United States. She retired from the Civil Service Personnel Department with the United States Department of State. She and her husband Joe lived in Dover, TN prior to moving to Georgia. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Cairo.
Survivors include: son, Mark Phillips of Cairo, GA; grandchildren, Aaron Phillips of Athens, GA, Jerissa Phillips Boyd (Michael) of Pelham, GA, Claire Phillips of Atlanta, GA; and great-grandchildren, Michael Boyd and Kayln Boyd, both of Pelham, GA.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband; son, Michael Phillips; daughter-in-law, Teresa Sue “Teri” Phillips; and a brother, Leo Arthur Smith.
