Betty Linda Hawthorne
November 3, 1944 – February 23, 2025

Betty Linda Hawthorne, aged 80, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at Hart’s Mortuary, Jones County Chapel. The family will greet friends for a reception following the service. Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 28, 2025, at Pine Level Baptist Church Cemetery, 298 Pine Level Road, Cairo, GA 39827.

A native of Cairo, GA, Betty had lived in Wilkinson County for the last 30 years. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 63 years, David L “Dave” Hawthorne, her father, Howard Lynn Womble, her mother, Margaret Brady Womble, and her sisters, Shirley Davis and Margie Pollock. Betty was a homemaker and co-owner of Hawthorne Chevrolet with her husband, Dave. She additionally held various accounting positions in the automotive industry before retiring to enjoy her grandchildren.

“Mrs. Betty” to many, “Meemaw” to most cherished friends, and especially her family, she deeply loved her 6 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved cooking and entertaining, playing with grandbabies, and coveted every holiday to enjoy her family and friends.

Betty is survived by her sons Mike (Kim) Hawthorne, Mark (Jennifer) Hawthorne, and Keith (Misha) Hawthorne; her grandchildren Lauren (John) McKowen, Savannah (West) Foley, Emma (Jonathon) Bennett, Sarah (Jake) Ryals, Harlee (Currie) Hanes, and Isabella Hawthorne; her great-grandchildren Max Foley, Teagan McKowen, and Olivia Bennett; her sister Jackie Clark; numerous nephews and nieces; and her beloved German Shepherd, Mabel.

Special thanks to her friends and caregivers, Nona and Donnie Patterson, and Lorraine Daniel. We will be forever grateful for your kind words and loving care. Betty was a devoted family member and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known her.
