Memorial services for Bettye Jean Nuhring Thomas, 86, of Cairo, GA, are at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 10, 2015, at the First United Methodist Church of Cairo, GA. Rev. Whit Byram and Rev. R. T. Beverly will officiate. Interment will be in Findlay, IL. Mrs. Thomas passed away at Magnolia Place of Cairo on Friday, November 06, 2015.
Mrs. Thomas was born on June 1, 1929, in Stendal, IN, to the late Emil Nuhring and Estel Bass Nuhring. On April 8, 1950, she married Harlan O’dell Thomas, who preceded her in death on October 8, 1975. She loved caring for children in her home, at church and in the homes of families. She was a designer and seamstress for children and adults. She made and modeled clothes for her grandchildren and herself to premiere in Atlanta, GA for Cloth World. She loved to bake cookies for school events. She was a member of Stendal Lutheran Church, Stendal, IN and later at Tucker Christian Church, Tucker, GA.
Survivors include: daughters, Marilynn Rhea (Randy) of Thomasville, GA, Peggy Thomas of Cairo, GA; son, Ron Thomas (Glenda) of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Amberlee Herbst of Spring, TX, Christopher Herbst of Spring, TX, Alyse Craig of Plantersville, TX, Alaina Rhea Gray (Kevin) of Maxwell AFB, AL, Ryan Thomas Rhea (Janda) of Portland, OR; great-grandchildren, Nora Jane Elizabeth Gray, Viviana Marilynn Gray, Noble Richard Gray, Girma Estler Gray, all of Maxwell AFB, AL, Tristan Thomas Rhea of Portland, OR; and brother and sisters-in-law, Emil Nuhring, Jr. (Alice) of Lynnville, IN, Grace Nuhring of Batesville, IN, Mary Lou Nuhring of Evansville, IN, Sug McLain of Augusta, GA.
She was preceded in death by: parents, Emil and Estel Nuhring; husband, Harlan O’dell Thomas; brothers, Leroy Nuhring (Ina Jean), Carl Nuhring, Charles Nuhring (Grace); and sisters, Ninon Nuhring Patberg, Geraldine Nuhring.

The family will receive friends at the First United Methodist Church immediately following the memorial service.
