Callis Evans Walker
February 23, 1931 – November 11, 2017
Callis Evans Walker, aged 86, returned to his heavenly home on November 11, 2017. He was with his loved ones as he peacefully took his last breath.
Active pallbearers will be Christopher Searcy, Isaac Headman, Marshall Green, John Green, Johnny Green, Steve Walker, Tommy Walker, and Dennis Walker. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles L. Butler, Jr., Lane Green, and Evan Higgins.
Callis was born on February 23, 1931 in Tallahassee, Florida to goodly parents, Hubert and Ollie Walker. As a lifelong learner, he graduated from Cairo High School in 1948 and attended Brigham Young University, Florida State University, and Wayne State University. Cal was a veteran who served his country in the United States Army. He was very patriotic and had a great love for his country. He married Anne Margaret Hogan in 1961. They raised one child together, Kati. After Anne passed away in 1989, Callis married Marian Cassels Walden in 1990.
Cal was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where he served willingly and selflessly in many callings. He will be remembered for his kindness, love and service to others. We will miss him, but are comforted to know that he is with loved ones on the other side of the veil. There are no words to describe the feelings of our hearts as we ponder the joyous reunion that is happening now.
We are now separated from a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend but have the hope that we will be worthy to dwell with him again in a place described in the scriptures as a place of “never-ending happiness.”
He is survived by his wife, Marian, his daughter, Kati Walker Searcy of Dahlonega, GA, his step-daughters Trisha Walden Headman (Neil) of Springville, IL, Melanie Walden Higgins (Mark) of Springdale, Arkansas, and his 9 grandchildren: Christopher Searcy, Sarah Headman Hipp (Sean), Jacob Headman, Evan Higgins, Rebekah Headman, Allison Higgins, Laura Higgins, Isaac Headman, Anna Headman, and Elise Headman. He is also survived by his sisters Ellen Walker Christensen, Ponda Walker Anderson, sister-in-law, Nina Gainous and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 435 Maxwell Dr., Cairo, GA on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Interment with Military Honors will follow in the New Ochlocknee Baptist Church Cemetery, Beachton, GA. The family will receive visitors at Clark Funeral Home in Cairo on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.
