Cecil Marvin Rash
January 2, 1943 – January 23, 2021

Private graveside funeral services for Cecil Marvin Rash, 78, of Cairo, GA, are on Monday, January 25, 2021, in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo, GA.  Rev. Chris Allen and Rev. Ron McCaskill will officiate.  Mr. Rash died January 23, 2021, from complications following open heart surgery at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dave Stroupe, Jason Rash, David Mitchell, and Jack Mitchell.

Mr. Rash was born on January 2, 1943, in Early County, GA, to the late Toyce Marvin Rash and Willie Mae Loyed Rash.  He graduated from Valdosta State College (now University) and received his bachelor’s degree in accounting.  Prior to 1994, Cecil worked in finance positions in South Florida, where he and Sue raised their two oldest children, Kelley and Jason, and where their youngest daughter, Katrina, was born and spent her early years. He also served as a self-employed CPA throughout his career and into retirement.  Cecil grew up in Cairo and returned in 1994 with his wife, Sue, and daughter, Katrina. He faithfully served First Baptist Church, Cairo, as a deacon and in other leadership positions.  A strong advocate for the city of Cairo, Cecil served as finance director for more than 10 years and worked hard to move the city forward.  He also volunteered many hours with the Zebulon Theater and Regional Community Center in Cairo, even during the five years he served as finance director for the city of Sylvester.  Known for his kindness and quiet demeanor, Cecil was a dedicated family man with an impeccable work ethic and calm presence.

Survivors include: his wife, Sue Rash of Cairo, GA; children, Kelley Mitchell (David) of Rock Hill, SC, Jason Rash (Jennifer) of Birmingham, AL, Katrina Rash of Trinity, FL; grandchildren, Taylor Mitchell, Emily Mitchell, Jack Mitchell, all of Rock Hill, SC; sister-in-law, Barbara Rash; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; granddaughter, Belle Mitchell; and two brothers, Marvette Rash and William Rash.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mr. Rash’s memory to: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
