David Joseph Avery
October 16, 1977 – November 30, 2023

Funeral services for David Joseph Avery, 46, of Ochlocknee, GA, are at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at Tabernacle Baptist Church, Cairo, GA.  Rev. Gwynn Hayes and Pastor Eron White will officiate.  Interment will be in Pine Forest Baptist Church Cemetery, Ochlocknee, GA.  Mr. Avery passed away at his home on Thursday, November 30, 2023.

Active pallbearers will be Billy Godwin, Greg Gamble, Scott Strickland, Trey Hayes, Joel Strickland, Johnny Dickey, Waylon Griner, Brian Atkinson, John White, Kevin Hart, Joe Dismuke, Steve Hayes, Bubba Hayes, and Chad Johnson.

Mr. Avery was born on October 16, 1977, in Cairo, GA, to Andrew Lee Avery and Susan Rollins Avery, who survives.  On March 4, 2006, he married Leigh Nikkole Ponder Avery, who survives.

David was a born-again believer of the Baptist faith.  He was a member of the Liberty Baptist Church in Ochlocknee, GA.  He worked in the nursery industry for many years and served as a volunteer firefighter with the Cairo County for several years even serving as assistant chief at one time.  He was a jack of all trades able to do most anything.  He loved working outdoors and enjoyed cattle farming and running heavy equipment as with his latest employment.  He was a loving husband, father, son, brother and friend.  He loved helping others and never met a stranger.  His presence will be greatly missed here, but one day we will meet again in Heaven to live forever more.

Survivors include: his wife, Nikki Avery of Ochlocknee, GA; children, Reagan Avery, Olivia Avery, and Ashlyn Avery, all of Ochlocknee, GA; mother, Susan Rollins Avery of Cairo, GA; father, Andrew Lee Avery (Margie) of Pelham, GA; sister, Teresa Kelley of Thomasville, GA, brother, Michael Avery (Michelle) of Whigham, GA; nieces and nephews, Hunter Avery, Tanner Avery, Merritt Avery, Georgia Avery, Brianna Kelley and Evan Kelley; special uncle, Allen Avery; special aunt, Ruth Watts; as well as other extended family members.

He was preceded in death by: grandfather, Hiram Lee Rollins; grandmother, Ruby Rollins; special aunt, Marlene Avery; and brother-in-law, Brian Kelley.

The family will receive friends at Tabernacle Baptist Church on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.
