Dorothy McBroom Hester

Funeral services for Dorothy McBroom Hester, 91, of Whigham, GA, are at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 23, 2021, at Whigham Baptist Church, Whigham, GA. Rev. Kerry Dinkins and Rev. Allen Hartsfield will officiate. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Whigham, GA. Mrs. Hester passed away at Grady General Hospital in Cairo, GA, on Tuesday, October 19, 2021.
Active pallbearers will be Blake Hancock, Jason Cassels, Sam Hartsfield, Jonathan Hartsfield, Mark Bennett, Matthew McBroom and Tony Bennett.
Mrs. Hester was born on January 28, 1930, in Whigham, GA, to the late Ralph McBroom and Lucile Ward McBroom. On August 5, 1949, she married Francis Hester, who preceded her in death on November 15, 2005. Dorothy and her husband Francis owned and operated Whigham Dry Cleaners for 40 years. Dorothy was a Grady County School bus driver for 20 years. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She has been a devoted member of Whigham Baptist Church since August of 1940.
Survivors include: her children, Eunice Barbaree (Pat) of Perry, FL, Frank Hester (Mary) of Duluth, GA, Faye Hancock (Kevin) of Whigham, GA, Kaye Hartsfield (Allen) of Hazlehurst, GA, Janice Lindsay (Tim) of Whigham, GA; grandchildren, Peter Barbaree (Dulcie) of Tallahassee, FL, Charlotte Young (Jon) of Tampa, FL, Melissa Chancellor (Scott) of Dothan, AL, Christy Winston (John) of Columbia, MO, Blake Hancock (Jessica) of Hartwell, GA, Sam Hartsfield (Grace) of Johns Creek, GA, Jonathan Hartsfield of Hazlehurst, GA, Heather Cassels (Jason) of Warner Robins, GA; great-grandchildren, Isabella and Rienzi Barbaree, both of Tallahassee, FL, Addison and Jack Young, both of Tampa, FL, Sam, Will and Abe Chancellor, all of Dothan, AL, Marshall, Elijah and Emma Winston, all of Columbia, MO, Georgia and Isaac Hancock, both of Hartwell, GA, Yuna Hartsfield of Johns Creek, GA, Alex Cassels of Warner Robins, GA; sister, Lois Bennett of Whigham, GA; sister-in-law, Louise McBroom of Whigham, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband; grandson, Lee Hester; siblings, Leota, Edgar, Embry; and a brother-in-law, Tommy Bennett.

The family will receive friends at Whigham Baptist Church on Saturday, October 23, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
