Funeral services for Edgar Calvin Ponder, 88, of Thomasville, GA, are at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 10, 2016, at New Shiloh Baptist Church, Thomasville, GA. Rev. Terry Hurst will officiate. Services will conclude at the church. Private interment will be in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Mr. Ponder passed away at Archbold Memorial Hospital, Thomasville, GA, on Thursday, September 8, 2016.
Mr. Ponder was born on October 15, 1927, in Cairo, GA, to the late Calvin Foster Ponder and Lillian Mills Ponder. He was married to Jeanette Green Ponder, who survives. He was retired from the United States Air Force and Civil Service. He was selected to serve in the Honor Guard under Gen. Douglas McArthur in the Philippines. He was a member of New Shiloh Baptist Church, Thomasville, GA.
Survivors include: his wife, Jeanette G. Ponder of Thomasville, GA; son, Mark E. Ponder (Stacie) of Lake Park, GA; daughters, Sharon R. Thompson (Phillip) of McDonough, GA, Terresia B. Serapin (Jerry) of Lenoir City, TN; grandchildren, Rachel Ponder of Athens, GA, Courtney Denson (Dustin) of McDonough, GA, Kathryn Meadows (Steve) of Lenoir City, TN, Daniel Serapin (Mallory) of Jacksonville, FL; great-grandchildren, Seth and Luke Meadows of Lenoir City, TN, Casey and Caroline Serapin of Jacksonville, FL; sister, Fannie Kate Wells of Climax, GA; step-daughter, Amy Boskind (Ken) of Thomasville, GA; step-grandchildren, Libby Glover of Thomasville, GA, and Kyle Glover of Modesto, CA.
He was preceded in death by: parents; wife, Folice Ponder; sisters, Tessie Bryant, Mary Hill, Willie Dean Copeland; brother, O’Neal Ponder, Wesley Foster Ponder, Ben Hill Ponder, and Leland Ponder.
