Elliott Roosevelt Hawthorne

Funeral services for Elliott Roosevelt Hawthorne, 91, of Smyrna, GA, are at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, March 9, 2025, at the Chapel of Clark Funeral Home, Cairo, GA. Rev. Ron McCaskill will officiate. Services will conclude at the chapel. Private interment will be in Hawthorne Cemetery. Mr. Hawthorne passed away at his residence, Smyrna, GA, on Thursday, March 6, 2025.

Mr. Hawthorne was born on May 18, 1933, in Whigham, GA, to the late George Washington Hawthorne and the late Leomer Faircloth Hawthorne. On December 21, 1956, he married Dorothy Johnson Hawthorne, and she passed away on May 15, 2011. They were married for over 54 years.

A God-fearing man of integrity, Mr. Hawthorne was proud of his military service in the US Navy during the Korean War. He was a faithful husband, a wonderful father, and a friend to many. He worked and retired after 31 years with Colonial Pipeline in the property accounting department.

Survivors include his son, James Hawthorne (Susan) of Acworth, GA; grandchildren, Tibor Szalka (Chelsea) of Emerson, GA and Erika French of Atlanta, GA: great grandchildren, Maya and Eli Szalka, both of Emerson, GA; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and siblings, Aaron Hawthorne, Sara Lorene Hawthorne, Mattie Merle Hawthorne, Eugene Talmage Hawthorne, and Wendell Reynolds Hawthorne.
