Funeral services for Elsie Maxwell Thomas, 92, of Cairo, GA, are at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, November 19, 2017, at the Chapel of Clark Funeral Home, Cairo, GA. Rev. Ron McCaskill will officiate. Interment will be in the Cairo Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Mrs. Thomas passed away at Magnolia Place of Cairo, GA, on Thursday, November 16, 2017.
Mrs. Thomas was born on June 15, 1925, in Cairo, GA, to the late James Alexander Maxwell and Annie Brooks Maxwell. After graduation from Cairo High School, she attended Georgia Southwestern State College and graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in education. On March 20, 1947, she married West Harris Thomas, who preceded her in death on October 20, 1994. She retired as a business teacher from Cairo High School. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cairo.
Survivors include: daughters, Gail Thomas Lynch (Ted) of Cairo, GA, Kay Thomas Foley (Jeffrey) of Decatur, GA; grandchild, West Calder Foley of Savannah, GA; great-grandson, Maxwell Daniel Foley of Savannah, GA; sister-in-law, Lucille Maxwell of Havana, FL; and niece and nephews, Marian Sherman (John) of Albany, GA, Tommy Chambless (Nancy) of Albany, GA, Bobby Bell (Kathy) of West Palm Beach, FL, Brad Bell (Susie) of Atlanta, GA.
She was preceded in death by: parents; husband; two brothers, Laverne Maxwell, Ladd Maxwell; and a sister, Mary Bell.
