Graveside funeral services for Marlene Shirley Vickers, 85, of Whigham, GA, are at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 17, 2017, in Butler Cemetery, Whigham, GA. Rev. Jimmy Dean will officiate. Mrs. Vickers passed away at Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville, GA, on Wednesday, November 15, 2017.
Mrs. Vickers was born on January 28, 1932, in Bainbridge, GA, to the late Claude William Shirley, Sr. and Minnie Ash Shirley. She graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1948. On September 21, 1953, she married Bonial D. Vickers, who survives. She began her work career with DEFAC and later worked with Campbell Soup Company for 10 years. She retired from Southern Earth Sciences in Tallahassee in 2012. In her retirement, she was a reading volunteer with Whigham Elementary School for 3 years. She loved to cook and entertain her family and friends. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She dearly loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was loved by so many including her siblings, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Survivors include: her husband of 65 years, Bonial Vickers of Whigham, GA; children, Dee Worthington (Hal) of Brinson, GA, Shaw Vickers (Cynthia) of Whigham, GA, Dennis Vickers of Whigham, GA, Jill Ernest (Randy) of Donalsonville, GA; grandchildren, Randall Earnest of Donalsonville, GA, Kelly Parramore (Maurice) of Thomasville, GA, Casey Vickers of Whigham, GA; great-grandchildren, Blake Earnest, Kaelin Gilliland, both of Donalsonville, GA, Miller and Marley Parramore of Thomasville, GA; siblings, Betty Sue Musgrove, Lucile Shirley, Claude Shirley, Peggy Merkison, all of Banbridge, GA, Sadie Kirkland of Colquitt, GA, Glenn Thomas “Duck” Shirley (Beth) of Blackshear, GA.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; siblings, Birdye S. Dennis, Beck S. Cliett, William C. Shirley, and Martha S. Royal.
