Funeral services for Emogene Strickland Miller, 85, of Cairo, GA, are at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, August 12, 2017, at the Chapel of Clark Funeral Home, Cairo, GA. Rev. Whit Byram will officiate. Services will conclude the chapel. Interment will be in the Cairo Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Mrs. Miller passed away at her home surrounded by her family on Tuesday, August 8, 2017.
Mrs. Miller was born on April 29, 1932, in Cairo, GA, to the late Willie Strickland and Cleo Singletary Strickland. On July 9, 1950, she married Wallace Miller, who preceded her in death on May 14, 2003. She was an established wedding caterer in Jacksonville for over 50 years. She was affectionally known as “Jean, the Cake Lady.” While in Jacksonville, she was a member of Oak Crest United Methodist Church. She was a lifetime member of the Jacksonville Garden Club and former president of the Home Demonstration Club and the Women’s Society. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Cairo. She was a member of the Eastside Baptist Church Quilters Club. She was a longtime member of the Drift Around Squares Camping Square Dance Club.
Survivors include: daughter, Joan Miller Cooper of Cairo, GA; sons, Glenn Miller (Dianne) of Cairo, GA, Mark Miller (Hollie) of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren, Keith Miller of Webster, TX, Jean Miller of Charleston, SC, Mikie Cooper (Megan) of Jacksonville, FL, Jessica Miller of Hannibal, MO, Alan Miller (Lauren) of Jacksonville, FL, Tyler Miller of Cairo, GA, Conner Hamlett of Jacksonville, FL; and great-grandsons, Mason Cooper, Carter Waller, both of Jacksonville, FL; step-brother, Sam Posey (Kim) of PA.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband; granddaughter, Chelsea Hamlett, grandson, Terry Hamlett; and a brother, Herman Strickland.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mrs. Miller’s memory to: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; or the United Methodist Children’s Home, 304 Pierce Ave, Macon, GA 31204.
The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Home on Friday, August 11, 2017, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
