Graveside funeral services for Ethel Oliver Ulmer, 94, of Whigham, GA, are Thursday, August 20, 2020, in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Rev. Douglas Halstead will officiate. Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Mrs. Ulmer passed away at her daughter’s home in Cairo, GA, on Monday, August 17, 2020.
Active pallbearers will be Stephen Gainous, Mark Gainous, John Bailey, Jim Rollins and Michael Holloway.
Mrs. Ulmer was born on December 26, 1925, in Moultrie, GA to the late James Solomon Oliver and Maggie Mae Jordan Oliver. She owned and operated a beauty salon until her retirement. On Nov. 3, 1944 she married the love of her life, Carl Ulmer, who preceded her in death after almost 62 years of marriage. They were a perfect match for each other and complimented each other’s personality. She was extroverted and never met a stranger, had lots of energy and a quick wit. She loved Providence Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and Training Union. She enjoyed singing in the church choir and often she would sing alto or tenor in numerous church duets and trios. She was President of Vacation Bible School for several years. She doted on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and they did the same with her.
Survivors include: her daughters, Sandra Rollins (Jim) of Cairo, GA, Carlene Holloway (Michael) of Cairo, GA; grandchildren, Michael Rollins (Kristan) of Durham, NC, Stacy Rollins of Brooklyn, NYC, Stephen Gainous (Sasha) of Thomasville, GA, Mark Gainous (Tasha) of Milledgeville, GA, Brooke Gainous Bailey (John) of Cairo, GA; great-grandchildren, Madeline Gainous of Thomasville, GA, MaKenna Gainous of Thomasville, GA, Drew Gainous of Thomasville, GA, Abe Gainous of Milledgeville, GA, Annie Grove of Milledgeville, GA, Katelyn Bailey of Cairo, GA, Kendall Bailey of Cairo, GA, Kourtney Bailey of Cairo, GA; sisters-in-law, Bertha Ulmer of Bainbridge, GA, Gail Ulmer of Whigham, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband; brothers, JD Oliver, Mark Oliver, Willie Oliver, Leon Oliver; and sisters, Ruby Oliver Evans, Kittie Oliver Wade, Effie Oliver Welch, Inez Oliver Ulmer.
