George Hugh Bivins

Funeral services with Military Honors for George Bivins, 83, of Whigham, GA, are at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 10, 2018, at the Chapel of Clark Funeral Home, Cairo, GA. Rev. Tammy Fincannon will officiate. Services will conclude at the chapel. Interment will be in Crown Hill Cemetery, Albany, GA. Mr. Bivins passed away at Grady General Hospital in Cairo, GA, on Monday, February 5, 2018.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ed Komarek, Benny Prince, Levaughn Bond, Charlie Norton and Walter Lewis.
Mr. Bivins was born on June 23, 1934, in Villa Rica, GA, to the late Paul Jefferson Bivins and Minnie Love Bivins. He served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired airline pilot with Pan American World Airlines. He formerly served as a Grady County Commissioner and was the first Republican elected in Grady County history. He was the former publisher of the Grady County Enquirer. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include: his wife, Betty Akridge Bivins of Whigham, GA; sons, Dr. Marc Hugh Bivins (Balkys) of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Dr. Jeffrey George Bivins of Cairo, GA; grandchildren, Anabelle Bivins of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Lorelei Bivins of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Priscilla Bivins of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Isaac Bivins of Marietta, GA, Oscar Bivins of Cairo, GA; sisters, Patricia Neill of Newnan, GA, Jean Gouldsborough of Hartford, CT; the mother of his children, Nora Pearce of Cairo, GA; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; and his brothers, Bill Bivins, Marvin Bivins, Gerald Bivins, Ferrell Bivins.
