Funeral services for Gilbert Robert “Bob” Jones, 71, of Cairo, GA, are at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 9, 2024, at Cairo First Methodist Church, Cairo, GA. Rev. Henry Bass and Rev. Sam Vernon will officiate. Private interment will be in Piedmont Cemetery, Calvary, GA. Mr. Jones passed away at Grady General Hospital, Cairo, GA, on Sunday, November 3, 2024.
Active pallbearers will be Mark Bishop, Chaz Oliver, Chris Hagan, Matt Duncan, Monty Ferrell and Tyler Lee. The honorary pallbearer will be Lewis Oliver.
Mr. Jones was born on December 16, 1952, in Hertford, England, to the late James “Jimmy” C. Jones and the late Carla N. Jones. On Aug. 28, 1976, he married Diane Butler Jones, who survives. They were married for over 48 years. He was Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of the Georgia Operation for Monrovia Nurseries, formerly Wight’s Nursery. Bob was involved in community development through the Grady County Public Education Fund, the Grady Hospital Authority and he was instrumental in the development of the Archbold Living-Cairo. He was a member of the Cairo First Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife. Diane Butler Jones of Cairo, GA; daughter, Stacey Elrod (Craig) of McDonough, GA; son, Bradley Jones (Erin) of Cairo, GA; grandchildren, Peyton Elrod and Nash Elrod, both of McDonough, GA, Campbell Jones and Ella Jones, both of Cairo, GA; brother, Wolter Jones (Rose) of Macon, GA; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Joanne Cannafax Jones; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles and JoAnn Butler; and a host of extended family.

The family will receive friends at Bob and Diane’s home on Friday, November 8, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
