Grace Harrell Ponder

A private graveside service for Alma Grace Harrell Ponder, 97, of Cairo, GA, will be held in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Rev. Jim Weaver will officiate. Mrs. Ponder passed away at Southern Pines Senior Living in Thomasville, GA, on April 20, 2020.
Mrs. Ponder was born on September 23, 1922, in Cairo, GA, to the late Oscar Ozrow Harrell and Hattie Miller Harrell. On April 11, 1940, she married Earl Foster Ponder, who preceded her in death on June 6, 2007. They were married for 67 years. She was a self-employed seamstress until her retirement. She was a member of the Pine Level Baptist Church in Cairo.
As in Proverbs 31, our mother was a dedicated wife and mother: She set about her work vigorously,…., She was clothed with strength and dignity, ….., She watched over the affairs of her household and did not eat the bread of idleness. We, her children, called her blessed, and we were blessed to have had her in our lives. Many do noble things, but she surpassed them all. Beauty is fleeting, but a woman who has fear of the Lord is to be praised.

Ponder (Betty) of Pelham, AL, Janet Ponder Driggers (Gerald) of Ochlocknee, GA; grandchildren, Tom Musgrove (Lori) of Live Oak, FL, Glen Musgrove (Staci) of Lake City, FL, Timothy F. Ponder (Vicki) of Chelsea, AL, Matthew D. Ponder of Birmingham, AL, Anna E. Driggers (Anthony Medders) of Ochlocknee, GA; great-grandchildren, Andrew D. Ponder of Chelsea, AL, Tyler Musgrove ( Zoie) Mayo, FL, Dustin Musgrove (Emily) of Live Oak, FL, Eastyn Musgrove, Gloree and Maverick Balance, all of Lake City, FL, Clay Stratton (Jenna) Live Oak, FL, Heath Stratton of Live Oak, FL; great-great-grandchildren, Tyson and Zylie Musgrove, both of Mayo, FL, Owen Musgrove of Live Oak, FL; sister-in-law, Agnes Harrell of Cairo, GA; brother-in-law, Fred MacDaniel Butler of Pelham, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by: parents; husband; brothers, Audrey Harrell (Marie), Ed Harrell, Roscoe Harrell (Alverna), Alvie Harrell (Grace), Dee Harrell (Alma); sisters, Joyce Harrell Butler, Mary Lou Crawford (Emory), Annie Mae Miller (Bob); sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mary Ponder and WH Muggridge, Maidee Ponder and Jesse Ingram; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Eulon and Joyce Ponder, Carl and Lucille Ponder.

Special thanks to the administration and staff at Southern Pines for being there for our mother when we couldn’t. Also, to our extended family of Rhonda and David Jackson for your love and attention, we will be forever thankful. To our mother’s deacons of Pine Level, past and present, thank you for continuing to serve as the Scripture mandates. She always looked forward to your visits.
