Funeral services for Gwen McCorkle Bailey, 84, of Cairo, GA, are at 11:00 a.m., Tueseday, September 22, 2015, at the First Baptist Church, Cairo, GA. Rev. Carl Harrell, Rev. Chris Allen and Rev. Robert Crapps will officiate. Services will conclude in the church. Private interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Mrs. Bailey passed away at her home in Cairo, GA, on Saturday, September 19, 2015.
Active pallbearers will be Christopher Weigly, Michael Weigly, Brian Bailey, Hunter Aldrich, Matt Mahon, and Ryan Mahon. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the TEL Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church; Tom Hopkins, Larry Higdon, Bill Elkins, Mike Chastain, Tommy Hopkins, Carroll Hopkins, John Mason, John White, Carroll Powell and Gary Keve.
Mrs. Bailey was born on October 28, 1930, in Hawkinsville, GA, to the late Sam Sterling McCorkle and Ruby Alma Herndon McCorkle. She graduated from Thomson High School and the University of Georgia. On January 15, 1949, she married Bill Martin Bailey, who survives, in Lakeland, FL. She was a homemaker and an active member of the First Baptist Church of Cairo. She was a Sunday school teacher who taught all ages from senior high to senior adults. She served in leadership roles for Women’s Missionary Union and Royal Ambassadors. She was the director of Vacation Bible School for many years and served on many church committees.
Survivors include: her husband, Bill Martin Bailey of Cairo, GA; son, Lee Bailey (Cecelia) of Cairo, GA; daughter, Lynn Weigly (Mark) of Cairo, GA; grandchildren, Christopher Weigly (Cristal) of Valdosta, GA, Michael Weigly (Ginny) of Tallahassee, FL, Brian Bailey (Ashley) of Atlanta, GA, Emily Aldrich (Hunter) of Wake Forest, NC; great-granddaughter, Stella Weigly of Valdosta, GA; sister, Sandy McCorkle Mahon (Gary) of Tallahassee, FL; niece, Kathy Bishop Trinkle (James) of Pensacola, FL; and nephews, Matthew Mahon (Samantha) of Tallahassee, FL, Ryan Mahon of Tallahassee, FL.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; daughter, Kathy Bailey; and a sister, June McCorkle.

The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Home on Monday, September 21, 2015, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
