Funeral services for Hanson William “Bill” Herring, Jr., 81, of Calvary, GA, are at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, April 9, 2016, at Calvary United Methodist Church, Calvary, GA. Rev. Wayne McDonald and Rev. Lynn Hurley will officiate. Services will conclude at the church. Private interment will be in the Herring Family Cemetery in Calvary, GA. Mr. Herring passed away at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital in Tallahassee, FL, on Thursday, April 7, 2016.
Honorary pallbearers will be: his Havana Golfing Friends, Ed Bates, Dr. Gene Maddox, Lester Jones, Dr. Charles Graham, Billy Poston, Bobby Durden and Warren Brownlow.
Mr. Herring was born on January 11, 1935, in Calvary, GA, to the late Hanson William Herring, Sr., and Elizabeth Jackson Herring. He served his country in the U. S. Army, 3rd Battalion of the 322nd Infantry Regiment. On November 3, 1967, he was married to Montine Page Herring, who survives. He was a cattleman, farmer and lifelong member of the Georgia Cattlemen’s Association and American Polled Hereford Association. In 1973 the Herring Family was the Grady County Livestock Association’s Family of the Year. Mr. Herring was a charter member of the Calvary Lion’s Club where he was instrumental in organization of the first Calvary Mule Days. He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Montine Page Herring of Calvary, GA; sons, William Herring (Karla) of Gallatin, TN, Mark Herring (Meg) of Calvary, GA; grandchildren, Mary Beth Herring of Gallatin, TN, Matthew Herring of Tuscaloosa, AL, Madeline Floyd, Charli Floyd, both of Gallatin, TN, Mason Herring, Vivian Herring, John Mark Herring, Ethan Herring, Grace Herring, all of Calvary, GA; sister, Carolyn Chason of Cairo, GA; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family will receive friends immediately following the funeral service at the church.
